A lithium aluminium tectosilicate mineral that crystallises in a monoclinic system is petalite, a loose gemstone. Mostly colourless, loose Petalite gemstone can also be found in colours of grey, yellow, and vivid pink. Because of its hardness, which ranges from 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, natural petalite is a very popular gemstone. It is an appropriate gemstone for pendants, earrings, and necklaces.
Natural loose Petalite stone is thought to have gotten its name from the Greek word for leaf since it has a cleavage in the middle that somewhat resembles veins and junctions.
Gem and mineral collectors frequently esteem faceted Petalite gems and specimens. Petalite is often offered in colourless form. There have been large crystals mined.
Castorite is the common name for this Petalite gemstone's transparent variation. Petalites with facets are often quite tiny. From 1 to 10 cts, faceted Petalite gemstones are typically sold. They are usually from Brazil.
The raw materials from Namibia have produced some stones in the 50-ct range that are slightly larger than average.
